Coleen Rowley: Give Peace a Chance at the RNC in St. Paul!

Just think how much better this’ll be swaying to some “Give Peace a Chance” music! This photo was taken last week when our picnic committee got together across from downtown St. Paul to plan and practice for September 4th across the Muddy Mississippi from the Republican National Convention.

As an artistically and musically-based gathering, we’re hoping to set the Guinness World Record for a creative human peace sign–that is, if we don’t get the quantity, we’ll go for viagra quality! (And if plagiarism is the highest form of flattery, we aim to make Christo real proud! With only about 1/3 of our total banners, our message still came through really well last week, huh?)

More information about our “Peace Island Picnic”, which is a project of the UnConvention, is located here and here.

So tell all your friends to come but make sure you warn them that no political speeches are planned for our finale like those across the river. Instead, after Tao Rodriquez-Seeger and other activist musicans lead us in a peace sing-a-long, we are expecting to close down the picnic with a sunset drum jam led by Brazilian group Batu Cada Do Norte! (With this artistic and musical excitement, I doubt anyone will really miss the political speeches.)
